My First

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “First!.”

My “First” was when I realized that I could preserve physically.   After having joined the Army at mere age of 17, I was in boot camp at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and we were on some million mile hike in the heat of the summer.   Coming from New York, the heat itself was beyond what I was use to and exercising in it was very difficult.  I happen to pride myself on physical fitness at the time,  and I recall reaching a point that I felt like I couldn’t take another step from exhaustion  when suddenly I obtained this new-found energy that had never knew existed.  It was a very defining moment and has stuck with me the rest of my life.  If I was to experience that one thing, I can say wholeheartedly that it was worth joining the Army.  God Bless America!
